Survey

2: Designing and Conducting a Survey

First you need to identify the audience for your advertising campaign and get their opinions on sending humans to live on another planet.

  • typeform: their motto is “easy, human & beautiful” and they include lots of images and diagrams to make it a fun experience (have a look at some examples here)
  • surveymonkey: this site has tons of templates for you to start getting ideas from (try having a look at the event feedback template for ideas on how to mix up questions and use different ratings scales) and a good section of tips on how to make and conduct your survey to get the best results (try the ones on question writing and types of questions if you are getting stuck).
  • limesurvey: they have a demo version so you can complete a survey yourself to see what it’s like on the other end, this could help you decide what kind of questions you want to include in your own survey.
  • kwiksurveys: links to social media sites…an idea for your final campaign.
  • Google Forms: that’s right…they can be used as surveys too! Lots of interesting templates and you can even use your own photos to make them perfect for your project.
  • surveygizmo: fun, cartoon templates and tutorials to help you design the perfect survey for your project

Remember you can use digital technology to record your survey results as well. Use the voice recorder on a smart phone or you could set it up like an interview and record people taking your survey on video.

If you want to clean it up and make your recording really professional you can use programs like Garage Band (GarageBand, 2015) or Audacity (Audacity, 2015). And if you need a little help figuring out how try these tutorials.
